Why this site
The last 15 years I've built all sorts of websites for people wanting to sell stuff, or show practical information. It felt like I was creating flyers for products and services, and nothing else. But after my homie Chandler sent me a link relishing the old days of the web, I was presented with something I've missed these years: personal pages.
The same websites
I visit the same two websites daily for fun, Reddit and YouTube. And while there is a lot of content on there, it's missing something. Adventure.
You see, these sites and others like Facebook, present content in the same convenient streamlined way. On the indieweb (or smallweb), every website you visit is vastly different than the other. I've seen very peaceful sites,
Personality
Through the term 'indieweb' I'm visiting around 10 different sites an evening, feeling like I'm visiting their space on the web. This feeling is strengthened through their own website identity. The colors they use, the graphics, how they name sections on their site. I'm not just reading their thoughts, I'm getting a whole vibe from this person.
I felt I was missing that. I had this domain all this time, and never made it 'mine'. So I've now created a part of the web that is mine, with some thoughts and things I like. For me there is no pressure for this place to succeed, to reach an audience, or to convince anyone. It's just here to be discovered.
